"Music can provide access, even when no medication can, to movement, to speech, to life. For many, music is not a luxury, but a necessity."

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is an HPCSA-registered health profession that uses music and the creative arts to support emotional, physical, cognitive, and social wellbeing.

In South Africa, music therapy is facilitated by qualified therapists who have completed a Master’s degree at the University of Pretoria. Sessions may include listening, making music, movement, art, and gentle reflection, and can support people of all ages- from babies to older adults.

Music therapy is especially helpful for those who find verbal expression difficult, offering alternative ways to communicate, regulate, and connect. No musical experience is needed.
